So This Is Love? was one more of Frank Capra's early productions for Columbia Pictures, then a young studio. Jerry McGuire (William Collier Jr.), a dress designer and the hero, is sick of being seen as a weakling. After work he quietly takes boxing lessons, which let him knock the stuffing out of his hefty rival Spike Mullins (Johnnie Walker). His newly acquired fighting skills win over Hilda Jensen (Shirley Mason), a store clerk who is mad about "cave men." Shot in a brisk three weeks, the film was completed ahead of Capra's Matinee Idol yet reached cinemas after it. Shirley Mason, the film's leading lady, was Viola Dana's sister; Dana had starred in That Certain Thing, Capra's first Columbia picture.
