Set in the Mughal Empire, this historical romance follows a potter's son who loves the foundling girl brought up beside him, never knowing that she is of royal descent. After slave traders seize her and sell her to a Mughal prince's household, he trails her to the imperial court in Agra, putting his life on the line to be with her. The tale offers an imagined account of how the Taj Mahal came to be.
