This was director Frederick Ermler's final silent feature. It was also the fourth and last of his collaborations with Fiodor Nikitin, who is cast as an officer who, after the Great War, lives for a decade with shell shock and amnesia, until he catches sight of a woman from a train window and his memory begins to return. He goes back to St. Petersburg, now called Leningrad, a man out of step with his time who struggles to understand the new society the revolution has created.
